I’ve been locked up writing Play Sorcerer for a couple of weeks now.
During that time I got called in for a week of Jury Duty.
I’d get up at 5:30 or 6, write. Go to court. Write during lunch. Go back to court. Come home. Go to the gym. Come home. Write. Fall asleep. Do it again.
I did the best I could, but it screwed up my forward motion.
Which is back now.
And here’s the thing: You know what happens when you write about how to play a game? You sit there thinking, “Man! This game is fun! I’d really rather be playing this game!”
That’s all.
Back to work.

I know what you mean. I’ve been working on cheat sheets for the major systems in Burning Wheel and have been itching to run a game since I started.
And a year or so back I was working up cheat sheets for Sorcerer and had the same urge to run it.
heh. Just thinking of it now I’d love to get into a Sorcerer game.

Since your last update said you were in the “final push”, how long do you think it’ll be before we have something in our hands? Have you even got the first draft ready for editorial review?

Hi,
Since writing those words, I wrote a 60,000 word doc — and realized I was writing a novel-length book that would be a wall of text. It would be a useless and unhelpful book.
I went back, started re-writing in a better format. I was doing nothing else at the time–weeks of just working on the book, re-formatting and re-writing a great deal of it. I now have 45,000 words of text I really love.
Am I done? No.
And write now I’m in the middle of a feature film assignment. And prepping a short film to shoot this weekend.
As soon as I can, I’ll be back on the book.
During this time I’m GMing a game of Sorcerer with two of my smartest friends about RPGs, taking notes about how I actually prep an play — just to make sure what I’m writing is, you know, true about how I play.
Do I consider myself in the final push? Yes. Am I happy with how the book is coming out? Very.

Does Play Sorcerer have any updates? I think I bought into the production of it but my address has changed like 3-4 times since then. If if comes out I’ll need to get that updated.

Hello?

Hi Scott,
I am planning on have very specific news by the start of next year.
I don’t expect that to be a satisfactory answer. But it is the answer.

Sounds good. If it will happen relatively soon I have no problems waiting. If it’ll be years before it’s done I’l like a refund.

Hi, Chris,
We’re well into the start of the year, can you share that very specific news with us now?

I’d love to hear, too.

The very specific news is that I’ll be refunding all monies to the Fundable Backers.
I have just sent out the following email:
***
Hello,
First, let me apologized for the impersonal nature of this email. I’m contacting lots of people and this is the most efficient way of doing it.
Second, let me apologize for not finishing Play Sorcerer. I appreciate all the support for the project. But years have passed since the Fundable backer campaign. The fact is, if I haven’t finished the book by now there’s no reason to think it will ever get finished.
I’m contacting all the backers to return their money. I have a list of all the amounts due.
1) If you would like your money repaid by PayPal, please send me the name of PayPal account to return the money to.
2) If you would like me to mail you a check, please send me your name and address and I’ll get it off in the mail.
I have records of the donations. They are listed by the name each person would have used to make the payment via PayPal.
Finally, some email addresses will have changed in the intervening years. I will be posting a notice about the refund on many websites. But if you know someone who contributed to the fund who did not get this email, please have them contact me at “christopherkubasik” and then the email place that starts with a g.
Have them include in their email address the email they would have used to fund the project through PayPal.
Sincerely,
Christopher Kubasik
